Should Your Birthday be a National Holiday?

Well, not for everyone, but for the one celebrating the birthday. Some companies give the day off, and I know my wife (one of the biggest birthday celebrants around) would be all in favor of that. In fact, like most guys, my birthday wasn’t really a big deal until I got married and my wife is sad that we canceled my birthday party. Of course, we were going to fly across the country for my party which is why it was canceled as her current health challenges make it difficult to sit in an airplane for 5+ hours. Heck, I’m not sick and I can’t sit on a plane for 5 hours. Somehow years ago I was able to fly to places like Ghana, West Africa (20 hours?) and Thailand (36 hours?) but today I can barely make it across the country. Perhaps I am getting older, well indeed I am getting older - today is my birthday. The best news? I am not yet 40.

Well, I stumbled on this - Happy Birthday. Today is your day, enjoy it.
Totally agree. A birthday requires a holiday.
But then age is in the mind more than the body.
Regardless. Have a good one.
The best b-day perk ever for me was when I was a kid you got to wear ‘free dress’ in Catholic school. Everyone would look in awe at the kid who got to where blue jeans to school. The only problem with that was my b-day was during the summer so I got shafted…ah, if only I could go back in time.
Awwwh! Happy Birthday (I’m probably a day late though)
I’m mixed on the celebrating … sometimes I want to, sometimes I could care less. Not sure where I’m at these days, but it’s coming up in a little over a month. No one’s planning me any parties though! LOL
Happy belated birthday my friend! I’m sorry for not seeing this yesterday.
I think if someone is to be shown favor (workwise) because it is his / her birthday, they should be given a “birthday day” to take advantage of any day of the year..when it’s most needed for rest or otherwise..
As for me, I don’t celebrate BDays. It’s the next day of the day before is all.
PS: I can say that because I am also a ‘pre 40′ person. *-)
Have a wonderful year and make everyday your B Day.
HB to you!!
However just wanted to mention that the flying hours you mentioned are totally wrong. To Fly from America (e.g. New York to Ghana) It doesnt take more than 12 hours and Thailand is only 20 hours away (even if you fly over the pacific!) But yeah sad you casn’t fly even 5 hours.
@ AlphaMensae - Well the way I went, they aren’t that far off. I guess I should have been more specific though. Ghana took two flight Miami to London, then London to Ghana. Both flights were roughly 6 hours.
My Thailand trip was Miami to New York, New York to Seoul, Seoul to Bangkok, then Bangkok to Chang Mai; 36+ hours in all.
Cheers!
