Is Anyone Else Getting Sick of American Idol?

My wife loves American Idol. Last season, I watched it with her and enjoyed it. I was glad to see Jordin win, although there were many other talented folks.
So move ahead to this year. I am pretty fed up with watching the judges. Is the show about them, or about the singers? Here is what just annoys me:
Randy - First, you were a bass player, what do you know about being “pitchy”? I think he throws that term around and just pulls it out every few times to sound like he knows what he is doing… that is, of course, when he isn’t just kissing up Simon and agreeing with what Simon says. And what is up with calling women “dude” and “d0g”, that’s just plain ridiculous. I vote for a new judge to replace him.
Paula - Sweet, attractive, yet somewhat “out there”. I have heard she has some disorder that makes her loopy; perhaps this is true, or perhaps she is just kind of out there. I am sure she knows a good voice but please stop trying to make everything seem so emotional. She’s got some pretty odd descriptions for the contestants, but I’d vote for her to stay.
Simon, Simon, Simon. Where do we start? I saw Simon’s nice side when they did the Idol Gives Back plug last year, but for the most part, the guy just seems like an arrogant prick. He is usually tactless, unless he thinks you’re hot and wants to keep you on stage, but the guy needs to loosen up. I think the “prick schtick” is just old. Last year, I think he went way over the line by telling a contestant that he looked like “a creature from the Amazon” - that was just plain rude and out of line. He’s probably got some hidden insecurities that he is hiding with his machismo. Tonight he rudely told Paula to “shut up” and she seemed to be shocked and offended by it. Maybe he didn’t take his vitamins - or maybe we need a new Judge #3?
So that’s my take on Idol, at least for this season.
Oh yeah, Ryan (while not a judge) seems to be a good guy with a heart and soul. I do wonder though how much of the Simon banter is show and how much is true discord. We may never know.

Hey Daily,
I stumbled upon you randomly. I like your writing. Welcome to the blogging universe.
I have been sick of American Idol from the start. Never really liked it in the first place. But I’m pretty sure there are LOTS of people out there who watch it specifically for Simon’s horrible rudeness and cruelty. It’s something you don’t get to see a lot on TV and it’s good therapy for people who wish they could say things like that to their co-workers, family members, or anyone who might get on their nerves.
Keep up the good writing,

Thanks Gilian for visiting and for your kind remarks. I agree there are some people who derive some sick pleasure out of that kind of attitude… not me. Feel free to subscribe to the blog via RSS to keep up with what takes place at Daily Soundoff.
